Music in Movies is a general music appreciation course that explores the powerful role of music in film, guiding students through the art of storytelling ...with sound.  From the early beginnings of the iconic silent films of Charlie Chaplin ...to famous scores written by the greats like John Williams and Hans Zimmer ...to subtle soundscapes, students will learn how music enhances emotion, builds tension, and shapes cinematic experiences.  No musical experience or theory knowledge is required to enroll--just curiosity and a love for music ... and of course ... movies!

By the end of this 18-week course tudents will be able to:

• Understand how music shapes storytelling in film
• Recognize key film music techniques and styles
• Explore iconic composers and soundtracks
• Develop critical listening and media literacy skills
• Create basic soundtracks using accessible tools

Topics include: Foundations of Film Music; Listening and Analysis; Iconic Composers and Styles; Creative Exploration (how film scores are created); Final Projects and Reflection.  Of course, there will be lots of listening along with many film clips to watch!  It is a fun and informative class!
